Getting better slowly
Like Mel, I’m dragging myself out of this sickness but I don’t have much energy for writing. So quizzes seem like a good alternative.

You are The Wheel of Fortune
Good fortune and happiness but sometimes a species of
intoxication with success
The Wheel of Fortune is all about big things, luck, change, fortune. Almost always good fortune. You are lucky in all things that you do and happy with the things that come to you. Be careful that success does not go to your head however. Sometimes luck can change.

The dreaded lurgy
Australia is in the midst of one of the worse flu seasons ever. So the downside of going to a RWAustalia conference is getting sick. Everyone is sick.
So I’m crawling back to bed with fluids and Loretta Chase. Comfort reading.

Tired but satisfied
After the Romance Writers’ of Australia conference I need a week to recover! Much eating, drinking, talking and thinking. Sadly, my camera decided to give up the ghost just after I took a whole lot of pictures of the Awards dinner. But Jenny Crusie has some on her blog and more will pop up over the weeks.
Ms Crusie and Anne Stuart were fabulous. Jenny did a day long workshop that was one of the best I’ve ever done. Full of good, solid skills and advice about structure, plotting, revising and living the writers life.
Anne Stuart (aka Sister Krissie - see photographs on the Argh Ink) did a wonderful workshop about writing dark contemporaries which enabled me to have a light bulb moment about my hero. She suggested a terrific strategy to make your characters meaty. Think of five things they would never do and make them do them. So I realised my hero wasn’t tortured enough and he needs to get down into the murk and mire.
Anne also gave an inspirational closing address that I hope she’ll put on her blog.
So back to work!

Busy, busy, busy!

The Romance Writers of Australia National Conference is on later this week. I’m staying at the Hotel on Darling Habour in Sydney for four days. It’s the time when I bliss out and indulge myself. Lots of eating, drinking, talking and hopefully a bit of shopping. Sydney is my home town so I like being there, especially when I can pretend I’m a tourist and have people wait on me.
Jenny Cruise and Anne Stuart are coming which should be a blast. There’s also a Venetian Carnivale cocktail party and an awards dinner. I usually go home with lots of books to add to my already out of control TBR pile (or in my case a book shelf). But I have lots to do before I go. Household stuff and other boring stuff. And if I could just find the perfect, subtle, purple velvet top to go with my Venetian Mask, I’d be happy.
